Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve | Walk from Mulligans Flat car park, in Forde. You take Horse Park Drive following signs to Mulligans Flat. Stroll around this new reserve following bird trail. 3 hours 15 minutes 8.1Km stroll with stops at the Woolshed and the Bird Dam. Goorooyarroo NR Extended Walk | Start & finish at the car park along Horse Park drive on the way to the Federal Hwy. Climb Gorroo Hill and also Old Joe a hill on the border with views over the Federal Highway and Canberra. Old Joe from north side is very much easier. Nice walk through woodland and grassland with some amazing views. Visit an original border marker X4.The views from Gooro Hill and Old Joe Hill are excellent. The walk is medium-hard, 9.5Km, 3 hrs. Mostly on grassy tracks with a couple of minor bits of mud to negotiate. Numerous birds and roos. With some luck might see an Eagles Nest in a large gum. Check out bird links as there are numerous Eastern & Crimson Rosellas, and maybe a Little Eagle. Total climbing 70m. Note total distance is variable depending how far into Jerra we go. Cooleman Ridge | Walk from Kathner St, Rivett along ridge skirting past house at Rivertt and Chapman and climb the trail to the top of Mt Arawang (765m). On the way back travel along the ridge top visiting the hill with the Split Cherry and huge Kurrajong tree, Cooleman Trig (727m), and the Niblo Boulders. Superb views of Canberra from the north down south to Mt Tennant and the Brindabellas. Couple of moderate climbs over 8.2KM distance, 3 hours | Medium – Hard | Map of route |

Yankee Hat | Drive down to Yankee Hat Car park in Namadgi. Its about 77km and take 1.5 Hrs. Turn right near end of bitumen on to Old Boboyan Road at about 73.1Km then its 3.4 Km dirt 2WD road to Carpark and locked gate. There are two concrete causeways with a little water to cross over. Then walk over grassy trail to aboriginal painting site and with some gentle climbing towards the end of the trail. Lots of kangaroos. Walk of 6.2km taking 2.0 hrs. Car Distance is about 75Km each way, ie. total 153km trip, so we should share petrol costs. Nursery Swamp | Drive down to Orroral Valley in Namadgi. About 6.5Km after leaving the Boboyan Rd, there is a little dirt Car Park on the right. Then walk 4.7Km up a nice track and along Nursery Swamp on a wooden boardwalk. The way up from th car park entails an overall 200m climb but is largely flat along Nursery Swamp. We will return the same way. If keen there are optional diversions further along the valley to to an Aboriginal rock cave but this requires some bush bashing and an extra 2.6Km return. Distance 9.4Km, 3 hrs. Car distance is about 66Km each way, total 132km trip, so we should share petrol costs. Orroral Ridge – Legoland | Drive to Collimation Carpark 4.5Km west of Hioneysuckle Ck. Then walk out to Tower Rocks Lkt and back and then out to Legoland and Trojan Walls. Great views of Orroral Valley and Legoland Caves. Walk is largely level with some care needed near cliffs and caves, 4.4Km (Optional extra walk out to the Belfry. extra 2.2Km) Car Distance is about 64Km each way, total 128km trip, so we should share petrol costs. Fishing Gap – Tidbinbilla | Drive to Fishing Gap car park in Tidbinbilla then walk 7.7Km return to Fishing Gap. Its on proper 4WD trail but there is a total climb of 300m on a mostly gentle gradient. Return to car and drive 800m north to Hanging Rock Car Park. Then walk 750m around loop trail and see several granite tors that were once used by the local aboriginal people. Hospital Creek Hut | Drive to Yankee Hat Car park in Namadgi. Its about 77km and take 1.5 Hrs. Turn right near end of bitumen on to Old Boboyan Road at about 73.1Km then its 3.4 Km dirt 2WD road to Carpark and locked gate. There are two concrete causeways with a little water to cross over. The walk along Fire Trails past Forestery Hut to Hospital Ck Hut. Return along Old Boboyan Road and take side trip to Frank & Jacks Hut returning to cars along main FT. 10.7Km, 3 hrs. Square Rock | Drive to Corin Hub Car park on the Corin Dam road juts past Corin Forest. Then walk out to Orroral Valley Lkt and Square Rock itself. About 250m overall climb. Route is mostly on a nicely made track with reasonable gradient. There are some metal ladders to climb at the Rock bit its only 3 metres or so and safe. Total 9.6Km, 3 hours. Including visit to Orroral Valley Lookout. Car Distance is about 58Km each way, total 116km trip, so we should to share petrol costs. Granite Tors | Drive to Orroral Tracking Station car park. Then walk up the valley past the toilets to the Orroral management tk/Cotter Hut Road. Cross the management trail & follow the track marker to Granite. Its 7Km return & includes a 400m overall climb. Honeysuckle Ck – Booroomba Rocks | Drive to Borroomba Rocks CP. Then a car placement to minimise walking. Then a 4km walk between Honeysuckle Ck Campsite and Booroomba Rocks CP then climb the lookout track 2.5KM return. Nice views from Booroomba Rocks one of the best rockclimbing spots in Oz. Quite nice track to Honeysuckle, part of the Alpine Track. Quite a steep 200m climb up the Booroomba Rocks trail but very worttwhile. Note there is a bad muddy section just west of the carpark, so a pair of clean shoes and a plastic bag to put your walking gear is suggested Total 6.7Km 3 hrs. Gibraltar Peak – Tidbinbilla | Drive to Tidbinbilla entry where we will minimise cars to cut entry costs for the last couple of Km. Park at Dalsetta CP (750m) and take track to the peak (1038m) and back. Total climb of 320m (1050ft). Gradient is mostly gentle except for the last bit, 8.4 Km, 3 hrs. Car Distance:is about 55Km each way, ie. total 110km trip, so we need to share petrol costs. Nil Desperandum – Tidbinbilla | Drive to Tidbinbilla entry where we will minimise cars to cut entry costs for the last couple of Km. Then park at Webbs picnic area and walk to an old historic homestead Nil Desperandum. Total climb of 200m to get to Nil Desperandum, then a further but easier gradient with total climb of 120m coming back. Gradient is very steep on the way out and you will require shoes with a good grip as the trail is slippery. Also Tidbinbilla Ck has to be crossed through some rock hoping so the good grip is required there. Distance, 9.3 Km, 3 hrs. Mt Tennant | 5 hr trip. Drive to just past Tharwa. The walk from visitor centre up the track to the top and back. Mt Tennant is 1375m and Visitor Centre is 600m, Track return is 14.4Km. Easy | should be fairly simple walks on tracks or grassy ground with minimal altitude change. Typically would be a max of 2.5 hrs and 6-8Km walking |
Easy-Medium | should be similar to Easy but might involve some small amount of climbing or slightly longer distance. Typically would be a max of 3 hrs and 10Km walking |
Medium | really aimed at the Scenic type of walk with some climbing, maybe more difficult navigating. 3 hrs or 12Km walking |
Medium-Hard | is probably the hardest we should attempt. Essentially similar to Medium but with more intense climbing or longer distance. Good examples are Mt Majura, Mt Taylor, Mt Tennant. Max 4.0 hrs or 16Km |
